Jamie Sierota has just released an electro-pop, synth-driven, five-song EP So Long, Kid. With the eponymous Kid, the artist states that “It’s a painful process trying to figure how to be ‘responsible’ but not be freaking out all the time.” You can say that Kid is a song about the balance between immaturity and experimentation and the experience of a musician who knows what concepts are taking on. And so refrains sound a bit like they were recorded with the idea of playing on random things found in the home (like glass or wooden elements), which adds a juvenile aspect to the songwriting. On the other hand, the bass accent, occasional splash of the piano samples, and a very lively chorus present a more “marketable” idea of the pop song. In the end, this combination sells.
