Nothing Love, coming from the self-titled album of Surrija takes an unconventional inspiration. Based on the skewed history of Picasso’s misogyny and how he treated women, Surrija confronts patriarchy with a perplexed, skewed instrumental layer, which is full of surprises. The artist is dancing with intensity on the verge of art-pop, not being afraid of experimenting with unconventional sounds, all while delivering poignant lyrical content. As Surrija mentions: “This was a window into breaking down the patriarchy, as these women gave me agency to work through my own trauma. They are love letters to women.”
